selling corporation, with its primary headquarters in Toronto, Ontario. They
make high-quality, great tasting, nutritious and innovative food products under
leading brands including Maple Leaf, Maple Leaf Prime, Maple Leaf Natural
Selection, Schneiders, Schneiders Country Naturals and Mina. The firm employs 12,000
individuals all around over Canada and contributes to more than 20 marketplace internationally including U.S.
How
did they start?
Maple Leaf Food
was started around hundered years ago in 1927. It firstly appeared in 1898 and was a
well-known processor of food in Canada. Maple Foods sell their products under
various other companies. Today, their food products are highly in demand among
people. They started their career as Canada Packers which included different
companies in it. They started their work by selling pork products. Now-a-days,
they deal with almost all kinds of meat products. They expanded their business at different places by producing different popular products such as Squirrel
Peanut Butter and Black Diamond Cheese. As the time passed, they expanded their
business on large-scale.
Major
Groups of the Company:-
1) Meats Products Group:- They prepare
high quality of meat, bacon, poultry and turkey products. Their packed food
includes various household varieties and are sold in various countries
including Canada, Mexico, U.S.A and Japan.
2) Agribusiness Group:- Company’s
agribusiness group includes hog production that
provides livestock to the Meats Products Group. The material provided by
this group helps the Meats Group to continue their operations of making
products.
Their
business during 20th Century:-
Maple Leaf Foods Inc. is the major
processor of meat in Canada. Maple Leaf Foods Inc. is passionate about its
work. They have expanded their business on large scale by putting efforts. They
initially started their business in 1927 as Canada Packers by a tie-up of small
companies. Most prominent company among them was William Davies Company.
Furthermore, in 1961 Maple Leaf Mills was formally formed by the union of the
Maple Leaf Milling Company Limited, Toronto Elevators Limited, and Purity Flour
Mills Limited. They continued increasing their business in different areas and various
nations. Later in 1991, Maple Leaf Mills through combined efforts with Canada
Packers Inc., was transformed into Maple Leaf Foods Inc. In 1992,
Maple Leaf Inc. bought other companies such as Vancouver Fancy Meats and Shopsy’s
processed meat in order to expand their business and to supply the increasing
demand of food. Continuing in 1996, they started their business in the U.K by
setting up a plant in Rotherham, England. They purchased the franchise of
Pioneer French Bakery which was the primary provider of sourdough bread to the
U.S market in that particular period. After 3 years, Maple Leaf Foods pork making
company in Brandon got the license and started making the food. They also
launched pre-cooked bacon at that time.
Expansion
of business in 21st Century:-
Later in 2000, they started first
commercial bakery brand named Dempster’s which make white bread products. In 2001, the company introduced Maple Leaf Prime Naturally chicken which
provide 100% all vegetable grain-fed poultry to their customers. Schneiders
which was the largest producer of quality food in Canada was acquired by Maple
Leaf Foods Inc. in 2004. After 2 years, they declared new strategic plans in
the protein actions. In the 2007, they expand their U.K business by
acquiring many other companies which made their annual gross sale rise to $520
million. In 2013, they sold their Rothsay subsidiary to Darling International
Inc. of Irving, Texas. Also, the Maple Leaf Foods sold Olivieri to Spain’s Ebro
foods. Finally in the 2014, Maple Leaf Foods sold their company (Canada
Bread Company) to the well renown Grupo Bimbo.
